I would have thought we are all experts on breathing. We partake in the practice approximately 9000 times a day. And most of us have probably been exposed to the benefits of breathing through yoga, meditation or other health and fitness regimes. You may have also attended the ODA event last year which featured Darren Stojanovic a sports physiotherapist and breathwork instructor. So, like me, you might be wondering why I bought and read cover to cover James Nester’s book, Breath. But I’m so glad I did.
Nester had a life-altering moment of deep peace and clarity whilst attending a group deep breathing class. He couldn’t make sense of the experience and so he spent a decade researching the role of breath in our health and wellbeing. The book reads like a novel but is packed with easy-to-access science and historical data. I changed my breathing after reading the first couple of chapters and have felt immediate health benefits. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in living a healthier life.
